Athens, Greece

Athens is one of those places I had always wanted to visit as I have a secret (well not so secret now) guilty pleasure for Greek mythology and this was a very nice surprise. I only found out where I was going on the journey to the airport but that’s another story. Staying in the Plaka area was the perfect base to explore.

Also with a private guide we were able to visit the Acropolis, the Temple of Zeus and other key sites before they became busy.  With multiple dining venues and local street food options (Chicken Gyros on the run is a must) I would always suggest extending any cruise holiday departing from Piraeus with a pre or post stay in Athens.
