My latest trip to Bavaria took in three areas, Lake Tegernsee, Reit im Winkl and Berchtesgaden, all three were very picturesque with great scenery. These locations suit the active holidaymaker with walking, biking, non-motorised water sports, skiing and golf on offer or alternatively you can just sit back, relax and take in the scenery.
Lake Tegernsee has 5 towns/villages each has a different atmosphere, all are traditional and the houses are decorated with flowers. Bad Wiesse - is a spa town for those wanting a health resort with water sports and golf. Gmund - is on the north shore of the lake, a quiet picturesque village. Rottach-Egern - has a contemporary lifestyle with luxury hotels and fancy boutiques. Kreuth – has an impressive mountain scenery. Tegernsee – has some of the prettiest and oldest buildings in the area.
Reit im Winkl - Is lovely village with traditional buildings and various activities. We went up to Winkelmoos which has fabulous mountain views here you can do lots of hiking.
We took a boat trip on Lake Königsee to St. Bartholoma Peninsula, - Lake Königsee is also known as the Emerald Lake as the colour is so green. Great to do on a beautiful day, with the lake so calm you glide along in the electric boat.
Eagle’s Nest "Kehlstein" - On arrival we had a welcome drink then we walked to the top. Dinner was accompanied by an oompah band and all the tour guides were dressed in their traditional dirndl and lederhosen outfits, we had a really enjoyable evening.
The Salt Mines in Berchtesgaden - You have to wear warm clothing and sturdy shoes as the temperature is around 12ºC and you have to wear protective overalls which are provided. This was a fun evening as we had the place to ourselves, first we had a tour of the mine which included a short train ride and we went down a couple of wooden slides. After our tour we had dinner in the mines which was buffet style.
