Volendam

See OfFers

The beautiful and traditional seaside village of Volendam is not only popular for its bustling harbour but for its unique 17th-century buildings and houses, as well as the locals dressed in traditional Dutch clothing. Anybody who wants to experience the beauty of 'Old Holland' should visit Volendam. Due to its position the shores of the Ijsselmeer, thousands of people also visit this area for water sports.

Just 20km north of the capital, Volendam is often combined with Amsterdam city breaks, as well as trips to nearby Edam, the 'pearl of the Zuiderzee'. Here, you can take a stroll through canals and ancient streets as well as see how the eponymous world-famous cheese is made!

As you would expect from a fishing village, the fish is always fresh and of fantastic quality. Enjoy the scenic harbour views and cosy atmospheres of the many restaurants in the town.

Visit the Volendam Museum, one of the Netherlands' most unconventional museums. Head here for an insight into some of the unique elements of Dutch life from the 1800s and beyond.

Pop into one of the many photo shops in the town to have your photo taken in traditional Dutch clothing.

Rent a bike for the afternoon and cycle along the dike, with views of the Ijsselmeer along with ducks, geese and swans to keep you company.
