An experience with AE Expeditions (part of Aurora Expeditions group) is life changing. Founded by legendary adventurer Greg Mortimer more than 30 years ago, our expert Expedition Teams have been sharing their knowledge and understanding of some of the most remote and unspoiled destinations on our planet ever since.

On an Expedition, we follow the experience, not the itinerary so our purpose-built small ships, Zodiacs and immersive activities can take you to undiscovered areas. Because if you want to see something you’ve never seen, you have to go somewhere you’ve never been.

Our Discovery voyages take you to the heart of nature and they are full of adventure as well as history and cultural experiences. Sometimes we go off the beaten path and on others we visit a combination of less discovered and more populated areas.

Because when you disembark, we want you to be richer in your knowledge and understanding of our planet than you were when you stepped aboard.

Accommodation

Our staterooms are beautifully appointed, with a simple, neutral colour palette taking inspiration from nature in the polar regions. Choose from a range of configurations and features, including twin and double-bed options, private balconies and interconnecting staterooms.

Dining

One of the most important parts of any expedition is the food! Whatever adventures the day holds, you will be fuelled up with hearty meals and delicious morning/afternoon teas cooked by our onboard chefs.

Meals are a great time to soak up the expedition camaraderie in our open-seating dining area. Share stories with your fellow travellers and ask our expedition team questions that may have come up during the day.

Onboard the Greg Mortimer we have two restaurants: our main venue serving buffet-style family meals with à la carte dinner and our new reservations-required concept restaurant the Tuscan Grill.

Onboard the Sylvia Earle there are two restaurants: the main venue, Gentoo serving buffet-style breakfast and lunches with à la carte dinner, and our reservations-required restaurant, the Rockhopper hosting a steakhouse-style dinner.

Tea, coffee and snacks are available 24 hours a day, and our chefs offer different menu options and courses for each meal. Enjoy the range of house wine, beers and soft drinks included with dinner after a long day in the wild.

We also invite you to join your captain and expedition team for informal Captain’s Farewell drinks, with complimentary beverages and cocktail appetisers, followed by a 3 course meal.

Enrichment

On all expeditions you will meet naturalists and local specialists, who offer presentations on their area of expertise to deepen your understanding of the region you’re visiting.

Join the team in the lecture theatre for presentations covering topics as broad as history and culture, biology and climate change, but they have one thing in common: they all aim to engage, educate and entertain.

Entertainment

Facilities

While on board, the ship is your base camp in the most incredible environments on earth. Make yourself comfortable, your floating home is yours to enjoy!

As you explore the ship you will find indoor lounge areas with floor-to ceiling windows and panoramic views, and multiple open decks with expansive 270-360 degree views. There is no shortage of spaces to take in the majesty of the incredible world outside!

Kids & Teen

Health & Fitness

During your voyage, enjoy complimentary access to the gym, relax in the sauna (which we highly recommend after the polar plunge!) or indulge in the Wellness Centre. There are also two Jacuzzis on the top outside deck that offer amazing views of the world outside. Our small ships, Sylvia Earle and Douglas Mawson, are also equipped with a heated outdoor pool.
