Fred Olsen Cruise Lines ship Braemar is a small ship with all the amenities of a large ship. The food on this ship was outstanding and this was reiterated by everyone that I spoke to. I stayed in an ocean view cabin and this was a good size with plenty of natural light. It is such a friendly ship, guests speak to one another and in some cases know each other as they have been on the ship many times before. The staff are all very friendly. One of the highlights is the staff show, which is amazing and has some very talented people on board.
Amsterdam is a great city to visit by ship as if you are on a small ship you can sail right into the centre along a wide canal. The ship then docks behind the railway station which is a short walk to Dam Square. I would recommend taking the hop on hop off canal trip which starts just in front of the station. This is a great way to find your way around the city. You will see Ann Franks house, the art street, the antiques quarter, Vondel Park and the museum area. The red light district is in the heart of Amsterdam just off Dam Square and if you walk from the station you will walk through this area but it generally quiet in the daytime. If you have never cruised before I would recommend going on a mini cruise to one or two cities to trial whether you would enjoy a longer cruise.
