5 Things You Didn't Know About Norwegian Cruise Line

24
February 2020

Norwegian Cruise Line is best known for having first at sea moments, mostly in regards to innovative entertainment facilities like a go-kart racetrack and ropes course. Whether you're a family with small children or someone looking for an exciting holiday with friends, a NCL cruise is bound to appeal for many reasons.

Here are five things you may not know about Norwegian Cruise Line, regardless of whether you've cruised with them or not, which might sway your decision to book.

App and Interactive TVs

App

Before boarding, ensure you download the Cruise Norwegian - Plan & Chat app that's available on every ship in the fleet. The pre-cruise setting allows you to book any onboard activities and shore excursions, make dinner and theatre reservations and see your itinerary.

Once on board, you can message guests on the same cruise, order treats to be in your room when you arrive and view restaurant menus. All of your bookings and reservations made previously will transfer to the ship, but you can adapt these throughout your cruise. If you're unable to download the app, there are interactive TVs in the cabins and public areas of selected ships that offer the same features.

Cabin Treats

Flowers and Champagne

Many people book a cruise for a special occasion - a big birthday, wedding anniversary or other celebration - and want to surprise their loved one on arrival. With Norwegian Cruise Line, you can do just that.

Speak with reception or your dedicated cabin steward before the big day to arrange the decoration of the room for the occasion. Choose to send a bottle of wine and fruit platter, a gift certificate for the onboard spa or a beautiful bouquet. What better way to celebrate a special occasion than with a spectacular gift?

Cork Unfinished Wine

Wine Waiter

During your evening meal, you may choose a bottle of wine over a couple of glasses because it's better value for money. Some worry that they won't finish a whole bottle, which is where NCL's Cork Your Bottle policy comes into play.

After purchasing a bottle of wine and not finishing it, ask your waiter or waitress to cork it at the end of your meal. They'll ask for your name and cabin number to write on the bottle, before corking and storing it. To carry on drinking it the next evening, say your name and cabin number to your waiter and they'll bring it straight to you.

Historic Firsts At Sea

Go-Karts

Norwegian Cruise Line was founded in 1966 by Knut Kloster and Ted Arison. However, after eight years, Arison left to start Carnival Cruise Lines, leaving Kloster to run Norwegian alone.

From then on, Kloster was accountable for many firsts at sea including the first Out Island (Bahamas) cruise, the first cruise line to visit new ports in the Caribbean and the first combined air and sea program that allowed guests to purchase low-cost flights with their cruise.

NCL is responsible for several cruise innovations that are deemed as standard in the industry today and has some of the first-ever firsts at sea.

Scrap Single Supplements

Studio Cabin

Travelling solo or choosing to have your own cabin can be a struggle when most cruise lines charge a single supplement. However, Norwegian Cruise Line offers a Solo Cruiser Discount that includes a decreased single supplement for regular staterooms on select cruises. Choose the cabin you want without having to worry about paying a single supplement on top.

To not pay any single supplement, stay in a Studio Stateroom. These staterooms are specifically designed for solo travellers and therefore have no extra charges. You'll also be presented with a key card to access the Studio Lounge and meet other single guests staying in Studio Staterooms.
