Whilst many of us will still be undecided as to what our new year’s resolutions should be, Scenic Tours has decided that 2016 will be the year they conquer Asia. With the launch of two new ships, along two of the region’s most famous rivers, they will be taking guests to these cultural and vibrant destinations for the first time aboard their own ships.
Scenic Spirit, set to launch in January, and Scenic Aura, which will join the fleet later in the year, will sail the Mekong and Irrawaddy Rivers respectively. This will mean that the tour company extends its river cruise options outside of Europe for the first time. It has indeed offered Mekong river cruises in the past, but this is the first time these will happen aboard a Scenic branded ship.
The vessels themselves will bring large amounts of luxury to these two rivers. They are both all-suite ships, with Scenic Aura having a capacity of just 44 and Scenic Spirit featuring 34 suites for a maximum of 68 guests. Amongst the different accommodation options will be the largest suites on any river ship in the world. The Royal Panorama Suites offer a massive 861 square foot of floor space, as well as full-length windows that convert into a balcony/sun lounge at the touch of a button (via the top half of the window sliding down).
Scenic river cruises are well-known for being a great all-inclusive product. Not only do they include accommodation, meals on board, beverages and gratuities, every guest will have access to their own personal butler. This is a luxury usually only reserved for the highest paying cruisers when sailing with many other operators. Another service that comes as part of the original price is the range of exciting Scenic Freechoice shore excursions. This means that you can hand-pick activities and dining options ashore to create your own unique experience. Specific excursions include cooking classes in Hoi An and a balloon ride over Angkor Wat at sunrise.
There will be a range of different itineraries available, including those that combine land tours with river cruises. The Mekong cruises will be offered between Siem Reap and Ho Chi Minh City, whilst the Irrawaddy itineraries will be conducted from Yangon to Mandalay and vice versa. More will be added in time, including a 30-night tour, traversing both rivers, which will be available in 2017.
