Upon our arrival at Prague airport, we were delighted to find our Private Transfer ready and waiting. We embarked on a pleasant 40-minute drive from the airport to our first hotel, the Grandior, located right in the heart of Prague's charming old town. It was the perfect starting point for our adventure. As soon as we stepped into the lobby, we were greeted by our knowledgeable Tour Manager, Tomas Jelinek. He warmly welcomed us and handed out a wealth of information about the must-see sights and activities in Prague during our free time.
Throughout our stay, Tomas went above and beyond, keeping us updated and informed through daily email updates. These messages included important meeting times and additional helpful information to enhance our Prague experience. The tour itself was well-balanced, utilizing coaches to transport us to central points of interest, while the majority of our time was spent leisurely strolling and exploring on foot. This pace suited everyone, and in case anyone faced mobility issues after the tours, the coach was readily available to take them back to the hotel.
For those seeking to delve deeper into the cities we visited, there were optional tours that could be purchased. In Prague, we had the opportunity to visit the Old Jewish Quarter, accompanied by a local guide and Tomas himself. This enlightening experience took us to various landmarks, including Jewish and Spanish synagogues. Another memorable evening was the folklore dinner show, filled with lively singing, dancing, and mouth-watering local cuisine. It was an absolute blast, and everyone revelled in the festive atmosphere.
Our journey from Prague to Vienna was long, but it was delightfully punctuated with a stop at Cesky Krumlov, a medieval town exuding a charming ambiance with its well-preserved streets and Baroque architecture. The town was dotted with lovely restaurants and shops, allowing us to immerse ourselves in its historical charm. Throughout the trip, regular toilet breaks were thoughtfully scheduled, ensuring everyone's comfort and convenience.
Arriving in Vienna, we were greeted by the impressive Intercontinental hotel, situated in a prime central location opposite a beautiful park. Vienna, with its grand buildings and opulent palaces, proved to be a feast for the eyes. One of the highlights of our Vienna visit was the Schonbrunn Palace, a majestic summer residence that had served the Habsburg Dynasty for centuries. Its grandeur left us in awe of the history and splendour of the past.
A true treat awaited us in Vienna – a classical concert showcasing the timeless works of Mozart and Strauss. The performances, each lasting 40 minutes with a half-hour intermission, featured breath-taking opera singing and elegant ballet dancing. This magical evening was thoroughly enjoyed by all, leaving us with cherished memories.
During our stay in Vienna, we opted for the included cruise along the Danube River, from Durnstein to Melk Abbey. This leisurely day on the water allowed us to relax and take in the scenic beauty of the river. The cruise concluded at Melk Abbey, a magnificent structure still utilized by Benedictine Monks who impart knowledge to local children. A knowledgeable local guide accompanied us on a tour of the abbey, enriching our understanding of its historical and cultural significance.
Embarking on a Collette escorted tour proved to be an exceptional way to immerse ourselves in the wonders of each destination. Not only did we have the pleasure of traveling with like-minded individuals, but having a dedicated Tour Manager, such as Tomas, added immeasurable value to our experience. His expertise, care, and attention to detail ensured that every aspect of our journey was seamless and memorable.
Our time in Prague and Vienna was nothing short of extraordinary. From the rich history and vibrant culture to the delightful sights, sounds, and flavours, this tour provided a comprehensive and unforgettable exploration of these remarkable cities.
