What's Happening At The Hotel Jardin Tecina?

16
February 2015

Since our last blog post there has been a lot going on at the Hotel Jardin Tecina so we thought we would use this latest post to update you on some exciting news regarding the resort and the nearby area. This also gives us the chance to inform you of some up and coming events in the near future.

Hotel Rewarded For Its Sustainability

Gold Travelife Sustainability in tourism award

The Hotel Jardin Tecina has always conducted itself in a sustainable way, looking after the environment and communities in the local area. And recently, we were rewarded for this valuable work with a Gold Award for Hotels and Accommodation from Travelife. This prestigious achievement was earned through the continued work we do to reduce waste, produce our own energy, keep our use of water chemicals to a minimum, and address key social issues in the area. There were 150 different criteria which had to be adhered to in total; all reviewed by sustainable tourism company Travelife.

Fred. Olsen Takes Over Management Of Mirador de Abrante

Mirador de Abrante is a popular attraction on the island of La Gomera and it was recently announced that it is now under the management of Fred. Olsen. This viewing platform, found in the region of Agulo in the north-west of the island, stretches seven metres out from the cliff top and provides unrivalled views of the towns below, the Atlantic Ocean, and the commanding Mount Teide in the distance.

The platform itself is almost entirely made of glass to enable stunning views for miles around. Tourists and local alike have been treading gingerly over the transparent floor to catch a glimpse of El Charco and La Montañeta in the foothills below, as well as the breath-taking scenery all around. There is also a wrap-around bar serving local tapas and a car park onsite, which will now also be under the control of Fred. Olsen.

Talks At Tecina

During the coming weeks Hotel Jardin Tecina will be hosting a number of presentations by two guest speakers. The talks will take place during the last weeks in February and March and will feature Joanne Kidd and Mr Malcolm G. Nelson.

Joanne Kidd

Joanne is internationally recognised as an expert in a wide range of gardens. From those created in ancient Egypt and Rome all the way up to modern day techniques, she will be able to talk you through every aspect, historical and aesthetic. These talks will take place on the 24th, 26th and 28th of February and may also include details about one of Joanne's specialist subjects; the Spanish influence on the gardens of Mexico and South America.

Malcom G Nelson

Malcolm G. Nelson has over 40 years of experience in working as an HM customs officer. This time has provided him with a wealth of knowledge and more than a few amusing stories which he shares joyfully with his audiences. The talks are entitled '40 Years of Catching Smugglers' but each of the three presentations will have a different focus. They are as follows:

24th March 2015 - “An insight into how Customs Officers select people they think might be carrying drugs” - what are the tell-tale signs? How do guilty ones give themselves away?

26th March 2015 - “Drug Concealments” Some real life stories, with accompanying pictures

28th March 2015 - “Swallowers” - a detailed look at how people who swallow drugs as a means of concealment are detected and processed. This talk includes pictures and x-rays.

If you would like to visit Fred. Olsen's Hotel Jardin Tecina to attend one of these talks, or at any other time of the year, please call us today. Alternatively, you can send us the details of your proposed trip via our contact forms and we will get back to you.
