The countryside of the Allgäu region in south-west Bavaria is dominated by the majestic Alps and numerous lakes. The ten highest peaks of the Allgäu Alps, all around 2,600 metres high, are situated around Oberstdorf. The landscape of the region is dominated by hills, forests, meadows and lakes. The area is dotted with romantic little towns, many of which date back to the Middle Ages, and idyllic villages with churches and typical decorated houses.

The Allgäu is also famous around the world for its typical Alpine picture-postcard views and no trip to the Allgäu would be complete without a visit to Neuschwanstein Castle, one of the most famous castles built by the legendary King Ludwig II. The Allgäu region is a paradise for lovers of the great outdoors. A vast network of well-marked walks and hiking trails, as well as many mountain railways and chairlifts, will take you to the most scenic points. The area's many lakes offer plenty of opportunities for water sports fans and keen cyclists can choose between many different tours of varying levels.

Füssen Highlights

Of course, Füssen's sightseeing highlight is the legendary Neuschwanstein Castle, inspiration for the legendary Disney Castle. Entrance tickets can only be bought at the ticket centre below the castle. You must, therefore, buy your ticket before you start the approximately 30-minute walk up to the castle.

Take the cable car to the top of Tegelberg Mountain and enjoy breathtaking views over the region. You will find a Panorama Restaurant and many walking trails on the summit.

Oberstdorf Highlights

Take advantage of the many sporting opportunities such as 9 golf courses, several tennis courts and over 200km of walking paths.

From the summit of Nebelhorn Mountain (2,224m), you can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views over 400 Alpine peaks.
