Galicia is an autonomous community, with an Atlantic coastline, situated in the north-west of Spain. It’s a mountainous region with inlets, rias and rocky estuaries along the jagged coastline. Galicia is the number one thermal bathing location in Spain and is home to more than 300 hot springs, some used by the Romans. This region is the richest area in Europe in terms of natural, mineral water.
Thalassotherapy is very popular in Galicia and concentrates on seawater as it’s said to have many benefits to the mind and body. Some spa resorts only provide Thalassotherapy. Algae, mud and sea salt treatments are performed, sometimes with wine or chocolate, to help provide the guest with a stimulating experience. The Roman Baths can be found in Hotel Balneario de Lugo. This includes a hot bath, transit room and cold bath. Plenty of natural, hot springs can be located in Ourense, a city in the south of the Galicia Region.
Within Galicia, there are many famous landmarks and points of interest that may spark your interest including the Mondoñedo Cathedral, Monastery of San Xulián and Church of San Xoán.
