Ourense is a city based in the northwest of Spain, near the River Mino, and is well-known for its thermal waters that are collectively called As Burgas. Formed from three hot springs (la Burga de Surtidero, la Burga de Arriba and la Burga de Abajo), they are one of the most popular sights in Ourense. Due to the number of tourists visiting this area, the complex now has thermal pools for bathing in.
The sources of As Burgas is located in the centre of town, where two alkaline pools that are free to use have been created. The main pool is shallow and perfect for tourists to relax in, whereas the side pool is deeper and used for swimming. The temperature of this sulphur-infused water averages around 37 Degrees Celsius and is drinkable, but only for medical purposes. There is also a sauna and Roman Bath available here, but a small charge of €3 for 90 minutes applies.
After visiting the thermal spas, you may wish to see the iconic Ponte Romana Bridge, well-known for its arches, or you might choose to learn about the history of the thermal baths in Ourense through the As Burgas Interpretation Center, located next to the spa area.
