Even though I look at flight times and departures on a regular basis it always eludes me how quick you can visit some places in Germany.
After a short flight to Dusseldorf, our trip started with a guided tour of the city to learn of its history and how its architectural developments have helped the city thrive. From Architecture to high-end shopping, this multinational modern city is a hub for art and fashion.
On to Cologne, with only a short rail journey to Cologne the traditional Christmas festivities began.
After checking in to our hotel for the evening we took a short train journey to Königswinter and the cog railway to Drachenfels. This Unique Christmas market is one to remember with food and drinks stalls surrounding the lit castle. After a short stop we travelled back to Königswinter and to the Maritim Hotel for a sumptuous evening dinner.
The following day it was time to explore Cologne, with a variety of Christmas markets each themed, my favourite being the old Christmas market. Legend has it that the Heinzelmännchen (house gnomes) performed all sorts of different jobs for the locals of Cologne, and they can be seen throughout the old market.
A wonderful experience and a lovely trip, one I would definitely recommend.
