Kitzbühel is set in a broad valley basin between the majestic 'Wilder Kaiser' mountain range and the Kitzbüheler Alps. The village's historic streets and narrow, cobbled lanes are lined with colourful houses, exclusive boutiques and beautiful cafés. The unforgettable mountain scenery forms a perfect backdrop for the magnificent Old Town, which is enclosed by medieval city gates. In summer, Kitzbühel offers a wide range of outdoor activities for all ages and interests, especially walking opportunities which are plentiful in the surrounding mountains.
If you are keen to explore more of the scenic area of Tyrol, we also have lake and mountain holidays in Innsbruck and Seefeld available.
Activities in Kitzbühel do not begin and end on the slopes. Skiers and non-skiers alike will hardly have a spare moment with all that the area offers. Ballooning, curling, hang-gliding, skating, hikes and snowmobiling are all available. There is also a popular casino and for those who wish to experience the culture and history of the town, the art galleries are host to some beautiful exhibitions and there are many museums such as the Cable Car Museum, the Farmhouse Museum and Mining Museum. The town itself, with its medieval buildings and churches, should be fully explored and appreciated. The famous spa centre and health farms, as well as the public baths, are the perfect way to wind down after a long day of sightseeing. In the winter season, the Christmas Market is also a must see.
Kitzbühe has a vibrant and exciting nightlife, with numerous bars and nightclubs acting as hotspots for tourists. The London Pub is a favourite amongst the British visitors and is famous for serving its trademark cocktails. The town also has a casino in the Hotel Goldener Grief, perfect for those wishing to try their luck. Other popular nightclubs are Take 5 and The Royal, both of which offer the chance to dance until dawn.
Kitzbühel, with its many restaurants boasting great international and traditional cuisine, offers an excellent dining experience. Mountain restaurants are a must try, one of the best being Panorama Alm which offers stunning views as well as great food. Gabriele and Hostaria are perfect for those who wish to taste Mediterranean delights in Austria, but there is also something for those with more traditional tastes. The Huberbräu-Stüberl, Eggerwirt and Hagstein all offer exactly this at very reasonable prices. For a unique experience, Rosi's Sonnbergstub'n is a little out of Kitzbühel but serves delicious food and Rosi herself serenades customers.
In front of a backdrop of stunning mountains, the old town of Kitzbühel offers a truly charming shopping experience. The historic lanes are host to exclusive boutiques and shops selling jewellery, ski accessories and souvenirs. The outdoor shopping centre houses international designer boutiques and brand stores and is a favourite place for visitors. Moncler Flagship Store, Bogner House, the Airfield Flagship Store and Duvetica Kitzbühel are also great places for a bit of retail therapy.
